Reminder: Trash Do's and Don'ts

Over the last few weeks the Borough has seen an increasing number of irregularities with our automated trash collection. We would like to remind residences and businesses of the following requirements when placing your cans out for trash collection.  By following these guidelines trash pick-up will run more efficiently, cans will not be damaged and the streets of the Borough will remain clean and free of garbage.

Trash should be bagged before being placed in the can to prevent loose garbage from blowing about during collection.

The can lid must be completely closed when placed at the curb.

If you have an overflow of trash, please hold it until your next regular collection day.  If you find that a single 95-gallon can is not sufficient, you may purchase a second can. If you have a one-time special circumstance or event please call Department of Public Works @609-737-9440.

Bulk items should be placed at the curb with bulk trash stickers which can be purchased at Borough Hall. Bulk pickup is every other Wednesday. The next bulk pick up is Wednesday, July 20th.

Yard waste should be placed at the curb in an open container, or in a paper yard waste bag; plastic bags will not be collected. Please note that yard waste placed at the curb may not exceed 40 lbs.

Trash cans should be placed at the curb with the handles and wheels facing the house and the lid opening facing the street.

Trash cans should be properly placed at the curb for collection no earlier than 5:30 pm the day prior, or later than 7:00 a.m. on the collection day.

Residences or businesses who violate any of the above will be issued a violation notice. Repeated violations shall be subject to a fine.

Delays or cancellations due to weather or other emergencies will be posted on the Borough website at www.penningtonboro.org . You can subscribe for E-Alerts on the website to receive notifications.
