Introduction

The Pennington Shade Tree Commission was created by an ordinance in 1915. This brochure reflects a continuing effort to promote the planting of shade trees along borough streets in a cooperative effort between Pennington and its residents and friends.

Honorariums

Any person can purchase a tree to honor a loved one or in memory of a loved one. What a wonderful concept to dedicate a tree to a loved one and at the same time contribute to the beautification of our town. The planting of a tree can be a lasting gift to commemorate the birth of a child, Mother's or Father's Day and/or birthdays. When the tree is planted, a small, inscribed granite stone can be installed at the tree base. The stone will be placed and secured in the ground when the tree is planted.

Planting of Street Trees

The Shade Tree Commission will exercise final determination of tree location and species. There will be a spring and fall planting. Spring plantings will take place between March 1 and April 15 while fall plantings occur between October 1 and November 15.

Orders for these trees must be received by the Shade Tree Commission a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to the start of the planting season.

Cost / Responsibilities

The donor will assume the cost of tree and/or stone purchase. This is a one-time cost of $180. The town of Pennington and the Shade Tree Commission are not responsible for replacement of any tree or stone once installed.
